About

During the Okazaki Cherry Blossom Festival, around 700 local residents, with mounted riders among them, march through central Okazaki in this spring procession. It honors Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Mikawa samurai who served him, including his four great generals, and in 2026 its name changed from Ieyasu Gyoretsu to Ieyasu-ko Gyoretsu. At the front are the warlord and princess roles, cast through public auditions, followed by colorful princess processions and groups of boy warriors and girls. Musket and spear units stage demonstrations along the route. A send-off ceremony is held beforehand at Daiju-ji, a temple linked to Ieyasu, and the finish at the Otogawa riverside has stage events. It costs nothing to watch.
