Leave words on the map, right where you are.
murmur is an app for short, nameless words, left where they were written. They stay on the map for as long as you choose, and then they’re gone. We call them murs.

What you can do
mur
Leave up to 140 characters right where you are. Choose how long it stays: 1 to 48 hours (up to 7 days with Premium). Before posting, you can shift its location by a distance you pick, from 0 m to 1 km.
must
Leave a note on a shop or place on the map. Musts don’t expire, and each person gets one per place. Write it on the spot and it gets an “On site” label (from version 1.3.0).
mark
A named spot you plant where you are. It stays on the map, and you can add a notice and a photo (Premium).
Near
See murs, marks and musts around you, within 1 to 100 km, sorted by distance, newest and more.

Hear the locals on festival day
We keep a calendar of festivals and events in Kyoto Prefecture, with dates checked against official announcements. On the day, open the murmur map around the venue to see what people nearby are saying.

Is it free?
Yes. murs, musts, replies, favs, Near, search and translation are all free. With murmur Premium (an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription), you can keep murs for up to 7 days, have up to 10 murs with photos at a time, and plant one mark. Premium never adds a name — you stay anonymous.
Do I need an account?
No. We don’t collect your name, email address or phone number. Tap “Get started” on the first screen and you’re in.
Can other people tell where I am?
Before your mur is sent, your device shifts its location to a point somewhere between half and the full distance you choose (0 m, 10 m, 25 m, 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 300 m, 500 m or 1 km; 50 m by default). Your location is sent only once, when you post. We don’t keep a history of where you’ve been, and the app never uses your location in the background. Only if you choose 0 m is the mur placed exactly where you are.
When does my mur disappear?
When the time you chose runs out: 1 to 48 hours on the free plan (24 hours by default), or up to 7 days with Premium. You can change the lifetime or delete it yourself later.
Can I post photos?
You can add one photo to a mur or a mark, taken in the app. Photos can’t be picked from your library. Location and other metadata (EXIF) are removed before upload. On the free plan you can have one mur with a photo at a time, and take up to 5 photos per 24 hours.
Can I read posts in other languages?
Tap “Translate” to translate on your device (iOS 18 or later on iPhone). Post text is never sent to an outside translation service.
Is it on Android?
The Android version (Android 10 or later) is coming soon. On iPhone, murmur runs on iOS 15.5 or later.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Settings › Account › “Delete all my data” in the app. If you’ve already removed the app, you can ask us through the support page.
