About
Locals call it the "water god's festival": a summer festival at Minato Suijingu Shrine in Ichikawa where local fishermen pray for good catches and protection from accidents at sea. On the day, about 100 stalls line the riverside promenade, and crowds keep coming from early afternoon into the evening. Wandering past the stalls gives you a feel for a festival deeply rooted in its community. The shrine is about a 5-minute walk from Gyotoku Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, and buses also run from JR Motoyawata Station, making it an easy summer outing to drop in on.
