About

On January 18 each year, Myorenji Temple in Kominato, Kamogawa, holds a memorial rite for sea bream, the largest of the sea bream rites held at the start of the year. Over 100 believers leave the temple with the monks, chanting the daimoku as they walk to the boat landing at Tai-no-ura, where they board sightseeing boats. Out at sea, they beat fan drums along with the head priest's recitation and chant to pray for safety on the water, a big catch and the wellbeing of their families. The procession and the rite on the boats run from around 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Awa-Kominato Station on the JR Sotobo Line is about 20 minutes away on foot.
