About
Bairin Park in Gifu City holds this festival while its plum trees are in bloom. The park has about 1300 trees of 50 varieties, roughly 700 white and 600 red, and because the varieties flower at different times, there is something to see over a long stretch, from the earliest to the latest. Local volunteers run most of the festival, which offers a children's sketching contest, taiko drumming, kendama demonstrations and lessons, and miniature steam train rides, making it easy to enjoy with kids. The park has no parking, so take a bus from JR Gifu or Meitetsu Gifu Station to the Bairin Koen-mae stop and walk a little from there.
