About
On the night of January 15, the old town of Hida-Furukawa keeps a winter custom more than 200 years old: walking to three temples, Enkoji, Shinshuji and Honkoji, to honor the Buddhist teacher Shinran. A thousand candles line the Seto River, their flames trembling on the water, and snow sculptures holding candles, around 2 meters tall, stand along the main street. The Hida City Tourism Association rents out kimono if you would like to make the rounds in traditional dress, and a market at the festival plaza sells Hida specialties and local food. Everything is within about a 5-minute walk of JR Hida-Furukawa Station.
