About

The Akima Plum Grove in Annaka spreads over hills along the upper Akima River and holds its festival while the trees are in flower. Counted among Gunma's three great plum groves, it has been open to sightseers for more than 60 years. At peak bloom the slopes turn red and white, and footpaths let you wander among the trees; a shop serves local home-style food while the grove is open. Events mostly fall on weekends and holidays. In 2026 they included taiko and an outdoor tea ceremony at the blossom festival, shamisen and shakuhachi music, a produce fair, a market with food trucks, and evening illumination. Blossoms usually look best from early to mid-March. On busy days some nearby roads switch to one-way traffic, so drivers should take note.
