About
A beloved sign of winter in Sapporo, this festival of light began in 1981 with about a thousand bulbs on a plaza in Odori Park, and has grown year by year into one of Japan's leading events of its kind. The Odori venue in Odori Park features symbolic light sculptures, while tree-lined streets glitter along Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the Kita 3-jo Plaza (Akapla) and the south exit of Sapporo Station to the north and south, and along Minami 1-jo-dori to the east and west. Each venue has its own period; the dates shown here are for the Odori venue. The Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo is held at Odori Park's 2-chome block at the same time of year.
