About
Wear a yukata to this early-summer festival in Himeji and you get free entry to Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, the zoo and a few other sites. Held for the annual festival of Osakabe Shrine, it fills the city streets with people in cotton yukata as evening comes. In the children's yukata parade, held every year, local elementary school pupils follow the city fire department band from the Sannomaru square at Himeji Castle, along Otemae-dori and the Nishi-Nikaimachi arcade, past the shrine and on to Jonan Park. The park's stage features singing, dancing and taiko, and food stalls and local shops set up around the shrine, in the arcade and on Otemae-dori. Both days run from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There are no trash cans at the venue, so plan to take your rubbish home.
