About

Nishinomiya Shrine, head shrine of the Ebisu faith, celebrates the Nishinomiya Festival from September 21 to 23 around its annual grand rite, the most important ceremony of its year. The final day brings the procession: Ebisu is carried through town in a portable shrine, then a fleet led by a sacred boat sails out from Shin-Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor, and the Kazamatsuri rite for safe seas is held off Omaehama Beach. The procession comes from the legend of how the shrine was founded. Throughout the festival there are entertainment performances, a children's procession in costume, small barrel-shaped portable shrines carried by kids, and danjiri floats touring the streets. The eve rite is on September 21, the grand rite on September 22 and the procession on September 23, and plans can change with the weather.
