About
For roughly a month in autumn, the Satomi area of Hitachiota hosts a field of scarecrows. They stand in rows on the event plaza at Satomi Fureaikan, made by people from both the city and further afield. Anyone can submit an entry each year, and because the figures don't have to be made of straw, you'll find everything from goofy faces to surprisingly inventive designs. The setting in Satomi's green countryside gives the whole show a gentle, old-fashioned warmth, and visitors come from across Ibaraki and beyond every year. For details, contact the Satomi Festival Executive Committee.
