About
Each spring, Koga Kubo Park (Koga Sogo Park) celebrates its flowering peach trees, and in 2026 the festival marked its 50th edition. Its roots are said to lie in the Edo period, when Doi Toshikatsu, lord of the Koga domain, had peaches planted throughout his territory. The grove holds about 1,800 trees of six varieties, among them Yaguchi, Genpei, Kikumomo and Jusei-to, and at peak bloom the park turns a vivid pink. Bloom times differ by variety: Yaguchi, the most common, flowers from mid- to late March, and Genpei and Kikumomo from late March into early April. Every day of the festival there is singing, magic and street performance on stage, as well as experiences such as hot-air balloon rides. Traffic around the park is very heavy during the festival, and drivers are asked to use detours.
