About
The grand festival of Omiya Shrine in Tamatsukuri, Namegata, is said to have been begun by a lord of Tamatsukuri Castle. It is held over two days of the early-May holidays to pray for children's health and a good harvest. A mikoshi, tall halberd standards and the long-nosed deity Sarutahiko process through the Tamatsukuri district, and festival floats are hauled through the streets with Okame, Hyottoko and fox dancers clowning to the music on board. In 2026 it ran on May 4 and 5, centred around Tamatsukuri Post Office, from roughly 10:00 to 21:00.
