About
Running since 1973, this salmon festival is a long-standing winter tradition in Miyako. Its centrepiece is a market lined with salmon in every form: salted aramaki salmon, glistening ikura roe and all kinds of processed salmon products, making it a great chance to stock up on Miyako’s salmon and other winter delicacies. Purchases earn tickets for a prize draw with salmon-themed prizes, and there are activities for all ages. The festival is part of Miyako’s winter food event relay and is organised by a committee based at the Miyako tourism and cultural exchange association. The latest edition, its fifty-fourth, was held at a special venue at the Miyako Fish Market.
