About
Tadotsu's spring festival fills Toryo Park, a prefectural park with around 1,500 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, and the mascot Sakura-chan is there to say hello. The concourse plaza stage runs through dance, a sign-language choir, a magic show, hula and the Tadotsu Kyogoku Shorinji Kempo drum and martial arts performance. Over in the Fureai plaza, local groups sell regional products and festival food, and police motorbikes, patrol cars and fire engines are on display, with a quake-simulator truck to try. Food trucks gather in the Ichitaro plaza, and tea is served under the wisteria trellis. The Tadotsu National Kite Flying Contest takes place the same day at Horie Soccer Field, with a free bus between the two sites. During blossom season, the trees are lit up at night.
