About
This autumn festival thanks the land for the hot springs that bubble up across Ibusuki. Over two days, Central Park Ibusuki and the streets around Ibusuki Station host hanya dancing, a mikoshi procession, local performing arts and guest stage acts, and the finale is fireworks in the warm southern night sky. The festival dates from soon after World War II: people visit Yugongen Shrine next to the Tonosama-yu bathhouse to give thanks for the hot water and to pray that the springs keep flowing. It was a summer event for many years and returned to its original autumn slot in 2009. The venue is about 5 minutes on foot from JR Ibusuki Station.
