About
Hadano's largest event keeps alive the memory of the tobacco-leaf farming that once supported the city. For 2 days on a September weekend, the streets around City Hall, about 10 minutes on foot from Hadano Station's north exit, fill with festivities centered on traditions involving fire. The signature contest is the Jumbo Fire-Starting Tug-of-War, where teams heave on ropes to spark a large flame. Dancers in matching outfits move through town in the Tabako Ondo Parade, illuminated floats join an evening parade of light, and the Mahoroba Show stage offers singing, live music and dance. Fireworks close the festival. Its slogan translates roughly as 'flames dance, light plays music.'
