About
The biggest summer festival in the hot-spring town of Yugawara, held over 2 days on a different route each day: first between Yugawara Elementary School and Sakuragi Park, then along Makuyama Koen-dori. Flower-trimmed floats and mikoshi portable shrines move through the streets to calls of "yassa, mossa," while geisha in yukata perform dances in step with one another. With drums and festival music all around, onlookers soon join the chant themselves. On the second night, fireworks rise from offshore of the swimming beach, and underwater star mines bursting on the sea bring the festival to an end.
