About
On January 2, in the coldest part of winter, young people of the Komame district of Otsuki Town put on thin cotton yukata and go around the local shrine and several other spots, getting drenched with seawater at every stop. As they shiver and hold out, neighbors clap and cheer them on. It is said to trace back to a great fire that swept the district in 1662, and to have started as a prayer that no fire would break out in the coming year. Komame is about 35 minutes by car from Sukumo Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway. The 2026 event did not take place.
