About
Held by the Arashiyama Preservation Society on the second Sunday of November, this festival celebrates the autumn colors of Arashiyama and Mt. Ogura, beloved by Heian-era aristocrats, and gives thanks to Zao Gongen, the guardian deity of the area. Elegantly decorated boats such as the Imayo boat and the Heian court-music boat set out on the Oi River near Togetsukyo Bridge, recreating the boating parties of the Heian court, and performances linked to Arashiyama, including imayo songs and court music, are staged on the river and its banks. Admission is free. The event is cancelled in rain. The venue is about a two-minute walk from Randen Arashiyama Station, and right by the Arashiyama-koen city bus stop.
