About

Oshika Village, at the foot of the Southern Alps, has kept its own kabuki alive for more than 250 years, and this is the spring performance. Regular shows are staged twice a year, in spring and autumn, on old revolving stages that survive in the village; in spring the venue is the stage at Oisora Shrine. In 2025 the tradition was registered as a Project Future Heritage by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan. Entry is free and seating is first come, first served after the gates open, so bring a cushion to claim your place. A paid earphone guide helps you follow the story. If it rains, the show moves to the gym of Oshika Elementary School.

On the day, see what locals are murmuring on the murmur map
