About
Right after the year turns, at 1 a.m. on New Year's Day, Omiwa Shrine holds Nyodosai in its worship hall. Its other name, the Sacred Fire Festival, hints at the role fire plays. It is said to be the first of the year's regular festivals anywhere in Nara Prefecture, so coming here means witnessing the very first rite of the new year, straight after seeing the old one out.
