About
In the old merchant quarter of Murakami, a castle town, shops and townhouses bring out the dolls their families have kept for generations, in an event run by the Murakami Machiya Merchants' Association. You'll see not just hina dolls but warrior dolls, clay figures and much more, and since every house arranges its collection differently, it's fun to drop in on one after another. It's also a chance to go deep inside machiya townhouses you'd usually never enter. Viewing is free and needs no booking, but the houses taking part and their displays change each year, and hours and closing days vary by shop. Everything is within walking distance of Murakami Station, so it pairs well with a spring stroll around town.
