About
Also called the Usa Matsuri, this is the most important rite of the year at Usa Jingu, the head shrine of all Hachiman shrines in Japan. Of the more than 150 ceremonies the shrine holds each year, it ranks highest: a 'grand festival' with offerings sent by the Imperial Household. Prayers are offered for a peaceful nation and the happiness of its people. The date is tied to the traditional account of the deity Hachiman first appearing at Usa. The ceremony takes place at the Upper Shrine.
