About
In spring, all five sake breweries in Kashima open their doors on the same days. Kashima ranks among Saga's top sake towns: groundwater from the Tara mountains has supported brewing here since the Edo period, and breweries still work today, especially around Hizen Hamashuku, once a post town. Get from one brewery to the next on foot or by free shuttle bus, sampling and buying sake and talking with the people who make it. Every brewery puts on something of its own, and a stamp rally covers all five. Flower-and-sake and cherry blossom festivals are held elsewhere in town on the same days. Visitors aged 20 and over pay a 500-yen support fee, and parking at Yutoku Inari Shrine and other lots is free.
