About
Tied to Daitosai, the best known of the special rites at Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, this is a market for lucky bamboo rakes. Daitosai lasts from November 30 to December 11, and since a rooster-day-style market is held on its main day, the fair goes by the name Tokaichi. Several hundred stalls spread across the grounds, the approach and Omiya Park, selling good-luck rakes, household altars and food; crowds stay until late, and rhythmic hand-clapping and cheers ring out all around. Only on the main day, special items such as lucky charms printed with images of Daikoku and Ebisu, lucky rakes and lucky purses are offered. It takes place even in the rain.
