About
On the middle day of the spring equinox week and the following day, stalls fill central Oda from the station area along the main street. They sell saplings and garden plants, farm tools, household goods, clothes, sundries and toys. Locals know the market as "Chunitsuan." A plant market is also held at the Oda Civic Hall. Coming just as farm work starts, the market gave rise to the saying that spring on the Iwami road begins with Oda's Higan market. It is said to have formed in the Kan'ei era from several temple and shrine fairs that merged, and was once called the hoe market or bamboo market, when people from surrounding areas came to sell farm tools at the spring equinox. The Oda Chamber of Commerce and Industry organizes it, and the same market returns at the autumn equinox.
