About

On October 15 every year, a furyu procession winds through Oda-cho in Oda for the festivals of its two Hachiman shrines, Kita Hachimangu and Minami Hachimangu. Ahead of the shrine rites, people line up carrying items such as oinobori back-banners and Koya-hijiri and parade along the streets. Its origins are uncertain, but according to legend it copies, with decoration added, the visit paid to the Hachiman shrine by the monk Shobo of Mount Koya in the early Heian period. It became a designated cultural property of Shimane Prefecture in April 1992.
