About
In early October each year, central Kakegawa around the station hosts an autumn festival that keeps alive the customs of a town that was both a castle town and a post town. Floats decked out by each neighborhood roll along streets within sight of Kakegawa Castle, their bands playing, and the whole town takes on a festival mood. Every third year it becomes the Kakegawa Oomatsuri, featuring three grand performances such as the giant lion of Nito-machi; the next one is planned for 2027. Traffic restrictions keep cars out of the center while the festival is on, so arrive by train at Kakegawa Station, served by the Tokaido Line, the Shinkansen and the Tenryu Hamanako Railway, and walk from there.
