About
Staged by the Omoi River, Oyama's fireworks show is the city's largest event. Its history goes back to 1950, before Oyama was even a city, and for years it was a summer staple, but concerns about heatstroke and about safe evacuation in sudden downpours moved it to autumn from 2025. Because the seats are close to the launch site, you take in about 20,000 fireworks, among them community fireworks, wide star mines and a Niagara cascade, from up close. Fireworks in crisp autumn air have a different charm from summer ones. The venue is about a 10-minute walk from the west exit of JR Oyama Station; roads clog on the day, so the train is the way to go. Paid seating is available. The show is cancelled in bad weather and not rescheduled.
