About
Shiozuka Highland covers about 100 hectares around Mt. Shiozuka, a 1,043-meter peak straddling the Ehime–Tokushima border, and each spring 20 hectares of its grassland are burned in a ritual that heralds the new season. After a Shinto rite in the early evening, the grass is set alight, and lines of orange fire spread across the hills as darkness falls. The site is near the Shiozuka Highland observation deck in Yamashiro, Miyoshi. For 2026, the rite was planned for around 17:00, ignition for around 17:30 and the finish for around 20:00, but bad weather pushed it back from the original date. The schedule depends on the weather. Contact the Miyoshi City Tourism Association for details.
