About
The grand festival of Asakusa Shrine fills Asakusa with mikoshi in early summer. On the final day, the shrine's main mikoshi leave at dawn, travel around the neighborhoods all day and come back in the evening. On the second day, mikoshi from nearby districts all gather in the grounds of Asakusa Shrine and Senso-ji, then go back to their own districts and parade all over Asakusa. The opening day starts with a grand procession from the Tokyo Asakusa Kumiai building: festival music floats, firemen's work songs, geisha in tekomai dress and the White Heron Dance pass through Kaminarimon and along Nakamise to the shrine, where the binzasara dance is offered. Events are also streamed live on the official website.
