About
Nanbu Town's famous Fuyu persimmons star in this offbeat contest: eat the fruit, then try to spit the seed as far as you possibly can. There are men's and women's divisions, and the top finishers win generous prizes, so nobody treats it as a joke. The thirty-fourth contest in 2026 shares its day with the JA Saihaku cooperative's farm festival, using the Nanbu Town Farmers' Training Center and the parking lot of the Tenman Town Office. Anyone can enter for a fee, either at the day-of desk or by signing up beforehand, and the farm festival adds plenty more to see. Bad weather can call it off; if so, a notice goes up on the Nanbu Town website.
