About

Every May 3, right in the middle of Japan's Golden Week holidays, a procession leaves Hiyoshi Shrine in Yonago's Yodoe district and makes its way around town calling out a distinctive chant: "En-yo-iyana, en-yoitomakase, sa-sa-sa, saa yoitomakase!" The words are said to carry the hope "What a good world this is; may it become a good world; now, may it become an even better one." As they walk, participants pray for people's health and safety and for good harvests. Their energetic voices ring through the streets and liven up Yodoe for the holiday.
