About

Yamachosuji in Takaoka, a national preservation district for groups of traditional buildings with its rows of earthen-walled storehouse-style homes, becomes a gallery of hina dolls stretching the length of the street during this festival. Along with the Sugano House, the Dozo-zukuri Town Museum (the former Murosaki House) and the Ikadai House, homes not usually open to visitors set out their dolls inside. You can compare dolls from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras, each with its own look, while getting a rare peek inside historic family homes. The 2026 festival was the twenty-sixth. Admission is free, though there are charges for some activities and for food and drink.
