About
On December 18, Kimiidera Temple in Wakayama City holds Shimai Kannon. The draw is the temple's well-known amazake, a sweet drink made with prayers to ward off misfortune and keep everyone healthy in the coming year; volunteers from the Kannon devotees' association hand it out free from about 9:00 until it is gone. Raw daikon radishes, a specialty of the local Nunobiki area and likewise blessed for good fortune, are also offered in limited numbers at 500 yen each. The temple is roughly a 10-minute walk from JR Kimiidera Station.
