About
Shinjo gathers its "nmemono" (tasty things) in one place for this one-day autumn food festival. It takes over Abies Plaza and the adjoining parking area right in front of JR Shinjo Station, about a minute's walk from the station. Expect imoni, the hearty taro stew that defines autumn in Yamagata, along with farm-fresh vegetables, Yamagata Sakuranbo jidori chicken, Shinjo's own yakisoba noodles, mushrooms and other seasonal flavors of the Mogami area. Between bites, there are activities such as a stamp rally. It is organized by the Shinjo Mikaku Matsuri executive committee, based at the city's commerce and tourism division, and is an easy stop if you arrive by train.
