About
This fireworks show is unusual in Japan for being held up in the hills, around the Karst Observatory in Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park. Each burst echoes off the mountains ringing the karst plateau, so the sound seems to surround your whole body. The program includes two-shaku shells that open to about 500 m across, something rarely seen in western Japan. In 2026 entry was paid, with viewing-area tickets sold as individual sponsorship and parking booked in advance, and the first launch was set for 19:10. The show is called off in rough weather such as strong winds and is not rescheduled. Since the Mine Akiyoshidai Geopark became a UNESCO Global Geopark, the event has also promoted the 3Rs, and visitors are asked to take their rubbish home.
