About

On a Sunday on or before March 15, Ogata Shrine in Inuyama holds its harvest festival, nicknamed the festival that calls spring to Owari. Parishioners pray for good crops, a peaceful nation and flourishing local industry, and the old-fashioned village feel is still very much alive. There is plenty to watch: a giant rice cake offering, a procession in which men in their unlucky years carry a portable shrine and other items to ward off illness, drumming for the gods, and finally a rice-cake toss for the crowd. It overlaps with the shrine's plum blossom festival, so you can take in the flowers on the same visit. Walk about 20 minutes from Gakuden Station on the Meitetsu Komaki Line.
