About
For four days, September 23 to 26, Okazaki Tenmangu Shrine holds its annual grand festival, one of Okazaki's three major festivals. Kagura dances are performed for the deity, and the grounds host a children's arm-wrestling contest and a kendo tournament, with long rows of stalls drawing crowds. The shrine has long been honored as the guardian of Okazaki-juku, a stop on the old Tokaido road; people come to pray for good grades, safe travel, recovery from illness and good luck, and it is a well-known plum blossom spot too. From Meitetsu Higashi-Okazaki Station, ride a bus to Shiyakusho-guchi and walk about 10 minutes.
