About
Every winter, illuminations light up central Hirosaki. Along the outer moat around Otemon Gate in Hirosaki Park, the Winter Cherry Blossom light-up shines on snow piled on the cherry branches, so the trees look as if they were in full bloom. Lights also glow at Otemon Square, in front of Hirosaki City Hall and in the Civic Central Square. At JR Hirosaki Station, the second-floor concourse is decorated with illuminations, and the underpass at the central exit displays lanterns from Tainan in Taiwan, a city with friendly ties to Hirosaki. Most of the lights come on at sunset and stay on later on some nights, such as over the New Year holidays. It makes a lovely addition to an evening walk around town.
