About
The tori-no-ichi fair at Owashi Shrine in Ajiki, Sakae, held as the shrine's annual grand festival, is known as the latest tori-no-ichi of the year in the Kanto region. Crowds from in and around town come to buy kumade, decorated rakes meant to rake in good luck, and the fair has become a winter tradition for the town. On one day of the fair, a market is held around the shrine with goods such as products made from doramame, Sakae's local black soybeans. Fondly known as "Owashi-sama," the shrine is said to be connected with Kasuga no Tsubone and is worshipped as a guardian of success and good fortune. Entry is free, and it is about a 10-minute walk from Ajiki Station on the JR Narita Line.
