About

Each winter the Echizen Coast holds a festival in honor of its Japanese narcissus. Events are spread along the shore of Echizen Town, the Kono area of Minamiechizen and the Koshino area of Fukui City, with free narcissus bunches, local food and specialty stalls, rice-cake scattering, guided walks through the flower colonies and an ikebana show built around narcissus. The coast's wild colonies are the largest in Japan by area and rank alongside Awaji Island and Chiba's Boso Peninsula as one of the country's three great narcissus areas. Locally called Echizen suisen, the flower is the official emblem of both Fukui Prefecture and Echizen Town. Try visiting several venues and enjoy the blooms against the sea. In 2026 some events were called off because heavy snow was forecast.
