About

Echizen Town, which brings in roughly seventy percent of all Echizen crab landed and calls itself the crab's sacred ground, hosts Fukui Prefecture's biggest crab festival on weekends in November. At the Michi-no-Eki Echizen roadside station, local fishmongers who handle these crabs every day fill their counters with Echizen snow crab and seiko crab. Ready-to-eat dishes include seiko crab soup, grilled seafood and seiko crab steamed in the shell, all from the new season. A committee of the town, the fishing cooperative, the chamber of commerce, the fish brokers and the tourism federation runs the event. It spans two back-to-back weekends, four days in total, with free entry. Parking is beside the venue, a shuttle runs from overflow parking at Kuriya fishing port, and a local bus serves it from Takefu Station.
