About
On a weekend in November, the parking lot of Ono City Hall becomes the place to taste the year's first Ono zairai soba, a small-grained local buckwheat with a rich aroma that is highly rated across Japan. Eight groups, soba enthusiasts' clubs together with the Ono noodle makers' association, each serve their own handmade noodles, either oroshi soba with grated radish or kake soba in hot broth, topped with tempura or mountain vegetables if you like. There are also local sweets and farm products, food trucks, and a mini-truck vegetable market where farmers sell straight from their truck beds. Single-bowl tickets are sold at the venue on the day, and three-bowl advance tickets are available beforehand at outlets around the city (they are not sold at the venue). It is walkable from Echizen-Ono Station.
