About

In spring, Maizuru Park on the site of Fukuoka Castle fills with blossom viewers. About 1,000 cherry trees of 19 kinds bloom here, from Somei-yoshino to weeping and mountain cherries, making it one of the city's favorite hanami spots. By day there is a stamp rally tracing the history of the castle and the Korokan, a petting zoo and street performers, and around 90 food stalls and food trucks set up in the eating areas. After dark the trees and historic sites are illuminated; the Sakura Garden, the Otakayashiki site and the Tamon Turret charge admission, with free entry for high school students and younger. Walk from Akasaka or Ohorikoen subway stations.
