About
In spring, Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu's Kokurakita Ward is wrapped in cherry blossoms and the atmosphere of an Edo-period castle town. The varieties take turns, from Kawazu-zakura to Yoko, Somei-yoshino and Maihime, so there are flowers whenever you visit during the festival. The grounds are dressed up as a castle town, with a row-house corner and greeters in traditional clothes, and you can have a go at throwing shuriken or shooting a bow. The Kokura Castle samurai troupe makes appearances, and stalls selling local food line up. When it gets dark, lanterns are lit and you can wander under the glowing blossoms. It is about 15 minutes on foot from JR Kokura Station.
