About
Aizu's biggest festival fills Aizuwakamatsu for three days, organized by the Aizu Festival Association and spread across Tsuruga-jo Castle, Shinmei-dori Street and other parts of the city. Day one brings a lantern procession and the Aizu Bandaisan folk dance. On day two, a ceremony honoring Aizu's forebears is followed by the procession of the Aizu domain lords, with more Bandaisan dancing. The last day belongs to a children's procession themed on the Nisshinkan domain school and a fife-and-drum band parade. On the lords' procession day, the positions of its head and tail are posted online, handy for choosing where to wait. Watching is free; times differ by event.
