About
When the spring equinox week arrives, three lion dancers wind through Aizuwakamatsu's old castle town to the sound of flutes and drums, a long-loved sign that the Aizu winter is over. The old-style dance is a wish for a good harvest and a safe year for the family, and an expression of joy that spring has come, by turns powerful and graceful. It is performed at Tsuruga-jo Castle, Amidaji Temple, Oyakuen Garden and other spots around town, so you can watch from just a few steps away. Start times can shift with the weather, and bad weather may cancel performances.
