About
Tokaichi is Aizu's largest New Year market, and it has been held for more than 400 years. Around 400 stalls fill four streets in central Aizuwakamatsu: Shinmei-dori, Shiyakusho-dori, Chuo-dori and Omachi-dori. Most people come for lucky charms such as okiagari-koboshi tumbler dolls, pinwheels and ichi-ame candy, but there is also lacquerware, everyday goods and plenty of food. More than 150,000 people crowd the streets each year. The market is about 15 minutes on foot from JR Aizu-Wakamatsu Station.
